Electrolux flaunts that Aptitude (EL5010A) has an ergonomic design, built to provide a strong suction and comfortable handling with zero noise. Let’s check if this upright vacuum cleaner from Electrolux really stands up to all the hype created around it.

Here are the main features of the Aptitude. It has a 12Amp motor and that is comparable to other similar uprights. Yet, it must be added that it’s not so noisy as the other brands. Its brush width is 15”, which makes it wider by 2’ than others uprights. No wonder it helps to clean a wider area in a given time. As can be expected it comes with a washable HEPA H12 filter. Another nice feature is a variable speed for the brush roll, giving the user an option of a high speed for areas with high traffic, while the almost noiseless low speed would better suit delicate items.

The Electrolux Aptitude vacuum cleaner weighing 19 lbs can’t be categorized amongst the lighter machines, but then it has a 12 Amp motor with a large brush for cleaning.

Now, let’s examine the ergonomic features of the Aptitude. It is quite innovative of Electrolux to incorporate a gliding tilt feature that enables you to push the machine to a suitable height or you may keep it horizontal to approach those difficult to reach areas. Another ergonomic feature that greatly helps to make vacuuming not so tiring is the loop design of the handle.

There is however, a big limitation of the Electrolux Aptitude vacuum machine. Unlike rest of the models of Electrolux, this vacuum cleaner does not have an indicator to inform you if the bag is full. That means every time you want to confirm if the bag is full, you have to open the machine and insert your finger to check the status of the bag. These days, even the not so expensive vacuums are provided with a “bag full” indicator, yet Electrolux decided to do away with this feature for reasons that you may keep guessing.

One more component that needs a slight improvement is the length of the cord. At times you feel a bit handicapped because of its length.

Talking of the cord brings to mind its storage system, which is quite difficult to use. The cord won’t get released unless you unwrap a small length off the hooks to swivel the top hook for releasing the required length of the cord.

The Electrolux Aptitude vacuum cleaner is acceptable but can’t be considered as the best upright vacuum cleaner available in the market. But, that certainly doesn’t mean it’s bad.  The point is that for the kind of money you pay for The Aptitude, you might as well buy another upright better designed and easier to use machine.
